Terms of Service

Last updated: August 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website www.spatialindia.com and the map application at www.spatialindia.com/app (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Spatial India ("we", "us", or "our").

By accessing or using the Service in any manner, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Spatial India is a web-based demographic intelligence platform that visualises aggregate statistical data for India's districts and states. The data displayed on the Service is derived from publicly available datasets. Spatial India does not collect or display personal data about individuals.

A free tier of the Service is available to everyone. Paid subscription tiers give access to additional features, principally data export; see Section 8. Spatial India is operated as a sole proprietorship registered in India.

The Service is operated under the registered business name Spatial India. Notices under these Terms may be sent to hello@spatialindia.com.

3. Licence to Use

Subject to these Terms, Spatial India grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for lawful purposes, including research, journalism, policy analysis, and education. Except to the extent expressly permitted by the licence attached to your subscription tier, this licence is for personal and non-commercial use.

Your tier licence. Each paid tier carries a licence that widens this grant — for example, by permitting use in work you deliver to a client. That licence is stated on the pricing page at the time of purchase and is reproduced in full in every data export you generate, which is the record of what you bought. Where it conflicts with this Section 3 or with Section 4, your tier licence governs, except for the restrictions in Section 4 marked as applying to every tier.

Attribution requirement. If you publicly share, publish, or reproduce any visualisation, chart, or map generated by the Service, you must include the following attribution:

Source: Spatial India (spatialindia.com)

Beyond the uses described above and any widened by your tier licence, this licence does not include a right to sub-license, sell, or commercially exploit the Service or its outputs.

4. Prohibited Uses

The following are not permitted unless your tier licence expressly allows them:

  • Using the Service, its data, visualisations, or outputs in work you produce for a client, employer, or any third party, or in any other commercial activity.
  • Including data you have exported from the Service within a report, analysis, map, or other deliverable that you supply to someone else.

The following are not permitted on any tier, and no subscription licence lifts them:

  • Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the Service by automated means, including bots, spiders, or scripts, without our express written permission.
  • Redistribute, resell, or sublicense map data, GeoJSON files, or any other data assets served by the Service as a dataset, data product, or data feed, or in bulk, without entering into a separate commercial licence agreement with us. This does not restrict the inclusion of exported data within a deliverable where your tier licence permits it.
  • Reproduce or use Spatial India's derived analyses, composite indices, or custom visualisations as your own original work without attribution.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the underlying source code or data pipelines of the Service.
  • Use the Service in any manner that violates applicable Indian law or any other applicable law or regulation.
  • Use the Service, its data, visualisations, or outputs in a bid, tender, or other formal government procurement process, or in a political campaign or lobbying activity, without entering into a separate commercial licence agreement with us. Research, journalism, and policy analysis are not restricted by this clause on a tier whose licence permits commercial use.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or the servers and networks connected to it.
5. Data Accuracy Disclaimer

The datasets integrated into the Service are sourced from third-party government and public sources, each with its own publication date, methodology, and limitations. Conditions on the ground — including demographic, socioeconomic, and administrative boundaries — may have changed significantly since any given dataset was published. Spatial India does not independently verify, certify, or guarantee the accuracy of any data displayed on the Service.

The data, statistics, geospatial boundaries, and visualisations provided through the Service are offered strictly on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Spatial India makes no representations or warranties, express or implied — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or timeliness — with respect to any data, boundary delineation, statistical value, or information displayed on the Service.

Geographic and administrative boundaries shown on the Service are derived from publicly available datasets and are intended for general reference and research purposes only. Actual boundaries, jurisdictions, and ground conditions may differ from what is depicted, including as a result of changes not yet reflected in the underlying datasets or due to inadvertent errors in data processing.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, including the Indian Contract Act 1872, Spatial India expressly disclaims all liability — direct, indirect, consequential, incidental, or otherwise — arising from: (i) any error, omission, or inaccuracy in any data, statistic, or boundary displayed on the Service; (ii) reliance on or use of the Service for any decision, investment, policy, legal, or commercial purpose; or (iii) any discrepancy between the data displayed on the Service and the underlying government or third-party source datasets.

If you identify an error or inaccuracy in the data or boundaries displayed on the Service, we welcome you to notify us at hello@spatialindia.com. We will endeavour to investigate and, where appropriate, correct such errors in good faith. Any such correction shall not constitute an admission of liability on the part of Spatial India. Users are always encouraged to independently verify data against primary government sources before relying on it for any purpose.

6. Intellectual Property

Spatial India. The platform user interface, software, derived composite indices, visual design, branding, and all other original content of the Service are the exclusive property of Spatial India and are protected by copyright and other applicable intellectual property laws. All rights are reserved except as expressly granted in these Terms.

Third-party datasets. The underlying datasets displayed on the Service are owned by their respective government bodies, agencies, or open-data contributors and are used under their applicable licences and terms. Spatial India makes no claim of ownership over any third-party dataset. Users who share or cite data derived from the Service are responsible for providing appropriate attribution to the original data sources and for complying with each source's licence terms. Spatial India is not responsible for any breach of a third-party data licence by a user.

7. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in that policy.

8. Paid Subscription Tiers

Billing. Paid tiers are billed annually in advance, in Indian Rupees, through our payment processor Razorpay. The price shown at checkout is the price charged; Spatial India is not registered for Goods and Services Tax, so no GST is collected and none is included in that price. Card and bank details are handled entirely by Razorpay and never reach our servers.

Automatic renewal. Subscribing registers a recurring mandate — UPI Autopay or a card e-mandate — against the account you pay from. There is no one-time purchase option. Your subscription then renews automatically once a year, at the same annual price, without further action by you, until you cancel or until ten yearly cycles have been collected, whichever comes first. At the end of the tenth cycle the mandate closes by itself and your subscription ends; you are free to subscribe again at the price published then. Razorpay notifies you before each renewal is collected, as its recurring-payments rules require.

Mandate authorisation. Registering the mandate may involve a small verification charge — commonly one rupee — taken by Razorpay or your bank to confirm the account can be debited. It is separate from your subscription payment and is reversed automatically. It is not a charge by Spatial India and it does not affect what you pay.

Cancellation and refunds. You may cancel at any time; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for. Every charge carries a seven-day, no-questions-asked refund. The full terms are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Account and sharing. A subscription is personal to the subscriber and may not be shared, transferred, or resold. One subscription covers one account. Unauthorised sharing is a violation of these Terms and may result in termination of the subscription without refund beyond the seven-day window.

Use of exported data. The licence attached to your tier governs what you may do with exported files, and takes precedence over Sections 3 and 4 wherever it is wider — except over the restrictions in Section 4 that apply to every tier. It is stated on the pricing page at the time of purchase, and is written into the header of every file you export, so your own exports are the record of the licence you hold. Exported data remains subject to the licences of the underlying government sources described in Section 6; the citation block included in every export identifies them.

Founding pricing. If you subscribe while founding pricing is offered, the annual price you first paid will not rise for as long as your subscription remains continuously active on that tier. This is a commitment, not a courtesy: we will not increase it at renewal, and no notice from us changes it. Two things end it, both because they start a new subscription rather than continue yours — allowing your subscription to lapse and later re-subscribing, and moving to a different tier. In either case the price is the one published at that time.

Changes. Pricing, feature entitlements, and daily export limits may change. A price change applies to new subscriptions, and to a renewal only where the paragraph above does not hold; a narrowing of your tier licence applies from your next renewal. Neither affects a term you have already paid for, and we will give notice before any renewal at a changed price. Features available on the free tier may be changed, moved to a paid tier, or removed at any time without prior notice.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Spatial India shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, or decisions made in reliance on information displayed on the Service.

Spatial India's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amounts you have paid to Spatial India in the three (3) months preceding the claim. For users on the free tier, this limit is zero.

10. Termination & Suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe that you have violated these Terms, engaged in abusive or fraudulent activity, or if required by law.

We also reserve the right to discontinue, modify, or restrict any feature of the Service at any time without prior notice.

11. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

12. Amendments to These Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by posting an updated version on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Service after the updated effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service.
