UPES School of Planning and Architecture provides cutting edge B.Plan & M.Plan program that aims to develop multi-dimensional capabilities in the student to meet the complex challenges that lie in conceptualizing, formulating, designing, executing and assessment of impacts of the built environment on physical, environmental, technological and demographic characteristics of habitats.
The appreciation of Vedic literature is suggestive of India’s rich experience in the field of town planning, systems of land measurement, land subdivision, land use and location. Activities within the space were carried out according to clearly laid-out principles. However Indian planning experience was infused with western influences during the latter part of eighteenth century through the colonization of the country by the British, French, Portuguese and Dutch. The amalgamation of various city planning principles has left a broad repository of knowledge and heritage that provides a unique opportunity to synergize technology and space design.
The school offers B.Plan program designed on the model planning program and courses of study prescribed by the ITPI and will be enriched by training and studio modules that will focus to enhance the body of learning the synergies of E-T-E relationships. The four year degree program will be subdivided into eight semesters. Each semester focuses on strengthening the human capability towards the art, science and technological implications and synergies on / with the five major elements – land, air, water, flora and fauna and energy that provide sustainability for human habitat.
The pedagogy at UPES School of Planning and Architecture gains its strength from the following five pillars: faculty, build environment, laboratories and studios, library and teaching materials, and inter-institutional linkages. The specialized core faculty of the school is well supported by the faculty drawn from sister departments specializing in their domain areas of knowledge. The area requirements for the B.Plan program is compatible with norms and standards stipulated by concerned regulatory body. Inter-institutional linkages and networking are vital elements UPES educational systems as it enables access to vast amount knowledge sharing platforms. The role of these linkages is vital from many dimensions such as employability, data collection, appreciating real life problems and evolving problem solving approaches.
