Govt releases Rs194 crore for Pune under smart cities mission

The Centre has released its initial share of Rs 194 crore for Pune under the Smart Cities Mission.

The PMC and the state government are now expected to raise funds for actual implementation of projects. The PMC plans to give thrust on involving private investors.

Minister for urban development M Venkaiah Naidu has asked Pune and 19 other cities, selected in the first round of the Smart Cities contest, to launch their projects by June 25. In his communique to civic bodies, Naidu stated: “The municipal corporations must not delay formation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and ensure the projects planned under the Mission are not kept pending.” Pune was ranked second in the competition, but Naidu has said that rank does not matter.
