What could be common to the Transport Department, Intelligence Wing of police, and the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation in the coming months?
Come second quarter of the next financial year, they might become neighbours in Vijayawada.
The Transport Department of Andhra Pradesh could well be among the first to re-locate its headquarters lock, stock, and barrel to Vijayawada by the first week of July, followed by the Intelligence Wing, if one were to go by the pace at which the APSRTC is creating office space in the Pandit Nehru Bus Station Complex (PNBS) there. As for the APSRTC, its corporate office is almost functioning from the PNBS, with its Vice-Chairman & Managing Director N. Sambasiva Rao already operating from a fully-furnished office in the complex for quite some time now.
Work on creating a whopping 2-lakh square feet of completely built-up area at the bus station, whose Arrivals facility has been chosen for this plan of going for a multi-level construction, is going on at a frenetic pace.
A senior officer said that at a market rate of Rs.2,000 per square feet, the cost could work out to be about Rs.40 crore.
