India to start small development projects in Afghanistan

India on Monday conveyed to Afghanistan its intent to stay engaged with Afghanistan, the war-torn country, stating its decision to commence almost 100 small development projects.

Though none of the projects are as high profile as the Afghan Parliament building that India is constructing in Kabul, the new commitments underline India’s intention of helping the Afghan people, a person familiar with the developments said.

India’s decision was conveyed at a meeting between Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and Afghanistan chief executive officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah in New Delhi. Abdullah is in India to attend a conference on terrorism hosted by a New Delhi-based private think tank in Jaipur on Tuesday.
